When I first joined Selfridges, it was clear that the brand had a strong heritage and a bold vision for the future, but there was a huge opportunity to redefine the digital experience and elevate how customers interacted with the brand across all channels.
From day one, my goal was not just to deliver exceptional digital products, but to build a UX function that could drive innovation, collaboration, and long-term success.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to lead and deliver transformative projects that have fundamentally shaped Selfridges’ digital landscape.
From major platform overhauls to pioneering new ways for customers to navigate our stores, each initiative has been about making Selfridges more seamless, intuitive, and experience-led, both online and in-store.

Throughout my time at Selfridges, I’ve led on some of the most impactful digital projects in the company’s history.
Each one presented its own unique challenges and opportunities, pushing the team to rethink how we design, develop, and deliver exceptional digital experiences.
Whilst I’ve had the pleasure of working on a variety of large and impactful projects.
A major milestone in my time at Selfridges was the complete re-design of the Selfridges mobile app, a project that transformed one of our most critical digital touch points. The app serves as more than just an e-commerce platform; it is a direct connection to our customers, allowing us to engage more intimately, particularly with our international audience who may not have access to our physical stores.
Our goal was to create a best-in-class shopping experience, one that felt as luxurious, immersive, and seamless as shopping in-store, while also leveraging technology to deliver a channel-first, highly optimised experience. To achieve this, we focused on key pillars that defined the new era of the Selfridges app:
The result was a visually striking, high-performing mobile app that elevated Selfridges’ digital presence. More than just an online store, the app became an essential part of the Selfridges brand experience, strengthening engagement and reinforcing our position as a leader in omni-channel retail.
By aligning technology, UX, and brand storytelling, the Selfridges mobile app now serves as a seamless extension of the in-store experience, offering customers a curated, effortless way to interact with the brand, no matter where they are in the world.
Working for a multi-channel retailer like Selfridges brings exciting opportunities and complex challenges, especially when it comes to creating truly seamless experiences between digital and in-store shopping. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating closely with our exceptional stores team to develop innovative solutions that enhance the way customers connect with Selfridges, no matter where they engage with us.
Through strategic UX thinking, digital innovation, and customer-first design, I’ve helped shape experiences that bring our physical stores and digital ecosystem closer together.
Some of the most impactful projects I’ve led in this space include:
Each of these initiatives was designed with the core goal of empowering our customers to interact with Selfridges more effortlessly across channels. By ensuring that digital and physical experiences complement and enhance one another, we’ve been able to redefine what it means to shop at Selfridges, wherever and however our customers choose to engage with us.
The future of multi-channel retail is all about removing friction, creating personalisation, and delivering best-in-class experiences, and these projects have played a key role in bringing that vision to life at Selfridges.
One of the most impactful internal initiatives I’ve led at Selfridges has been the creation and implementation of our Design System, a project that has fundamentally changed how we design, build, and scale digital experiences. This initiative has been a multi-year transformation, requiring deep collaboration across multiple teams, departments, and disciplines to ensure its success.
Given the scale and complexity of Selfridges’ digital ecosystem, we took a phased approach to the delivery of the Design System, ensuring that each stage laid strong foundations for long-term growth and adoption.
1. Establishing the Fundamentals: UX & Design FoundationsThe Design System has transformed how Selfridges approaches design and development, delivering measurable benefits such as:
What started as a design-led initiative is now evolving into a business-wide transformation, shaping how Selfridges delivers digital and brand experiences at scale. The Design System continues to grow, evolve, and adapt to the needs of the business, ensuring that Selfridges remains at the forefront of innovative, customer-centric design for years to come.
Beyond delivering transformative projects, one of my proudest achievements at Selfridges has been building and nurturing a team of talented, empowered, and highly capable UX professionals. From researchers to designers and content managers, I’ve worked to create an environment where people thrive, collaborate, and push boundaries, ensuring UX is not just a function, but a driving force of innovation within the business.
When I first joined Selfridges, our UX presence was small but focused, a team of just two UX designers working in a limited capacity, primarily supporting the business on key initiatives and high-priority projects. While our impact was recognised, UX was still not deeply embedded into everyday decision-making across the business. Over time, I’ve led the evolution of UX at Selfridges, growing the team into a fully-fledged, multi-disciplinary function capable of supporting not only product development but also the broader business at scale.
Today, the team consists of:
Growing a team is not just about increasing numbers, it’s about fostering the right culture. I’ve focused on building a collaborative, high-performance environment where UX professionals:
The result of this evolution is that UX at Selfridges has moved from a small support function to a strategic enabler, one that shapes product roadmaps, drives customer-centric innovation, and influences business-wide initiatives.
By building a strong, multi-disciplinary team, we’ve not only enhanced Selfridges’ digital and omni-channel experience but also created a lasting impact on the way the business approaches UX and design-led thinking.
This journey has been one of transformation, and while we’ve achieved so much, the evolution of UX at Selfridges is far from over. The focus remains on scaling further, embedding UX even deeper into strategic conversations, and continuously raising the bar for digital excellence.
