I am a passionate UI/UX designer whose primary focus has always been creating the best possible experience for users by using feedback and testing to ensure the sites I work on are designed and tailored to their needs.
Throughout my career I have developed and maintained the ability to work on my own initiative whilst also considering myself a strong team player. I love working collaboratively not only with other designers, but also with product owners and technical teams ensuring we work in the most agile and cost effective way, delivering the best possible products.
I have an extremely inquisitive nature and am always trying to stay ahead of the latest trends and keep up to date with the recent techniques. I'm particularly interested in not just what users do, but why they do it and the ways in which we can influence their experiences with design.
Optimization and testing is key in getting the best results; this is something I strongly believe and if it's not included in the daily work when I join a company, I aim to embed this process at the earliest opportunity.
Over the years I’ve been extremely fortunate to work with some amazing brands and extremely talented people. This has giving me the opportunity to lead, and be involved with some really cool, thought leading & innovative projects.

USER EXPERIENCE DESIGNER | SCIENTIFIC PUBLISHING | JAN 2015 - JUL 2016
I was one of the Lead User Experience Designers for Springer Nature and work as an embedded UX practitioner within 3 core teams; Content Discovery. Content Promotion and Content Presentation. It is my responsibility to work with the product office and technical teams ensuring that we as a UX&D team, are focusing our efforts in the right areas and creating the best experience for our users.
To do this, I work closely with the UX Researchers and Designers to help create and facilitate tests, compile reports and then feedback the results into my teams, this ensures we shape our products around the needs of the user. I also like to actively participate in a lot of live testing and have been working very closely with the technical teams not only to show them the benefits of regular optimization tests, but to ensure that testing becomes second nature to the team ensuring we run at the very least one per sprint.
The most recent project I worked on was leading the design and development of our online visual language that not only influences and updates the websites UXD, but also enables our team to work more effectively and consistently moving forward. The main goal was to create a language that helped to explain and support our design decisions and patterns providing the product office and other stakeholders the opportunity to view user feedback.
USER EXPERIENCE DESIGNER | HOSPITALITY, TRAVEL & TOURISM | FEB 2011 - DEC 2014
Within my previous position my main responsibilities were to manage the work stream and growth of a small team of designers and researchers ensuring we delivered high end and highly engaging web pages.
I was a key player in many large projects at Thomas Cook, with the most recent being a pan European site wide re-design. It was one of the largest projects we had ever undertaken and it required an enormous amount of work, dedication and co-ordination to ensure it was delivered on time and most importantly, that it increased customer engagement and conversion. We needed to ensure we not only created a good product for our users but also some thing that made more technical sense, something that was more re-usable across our varying markets. The use of a more modular approach allowed us to move much faster to market allowing our business to grow at a much faster rate.
Each member of the team had an area of the site to take leadership of and ownership of: my key areas were Landing, Search & Product pages. I also shared the responsibility on all other journeys and pages within the site to ensure the new brand was rolled out consistently over the different business lines and markets.
Working at Thomas Cook gave me the opportunity to learn new techniques on a regular basis. I worked on their first ever-mobile application and also led the discussion from a design perspective on moving towards a responsive platform. We also ran regular hack sessions and site spikes letting us move products through production and to the user a lot faster.
UX WEB DESIGNER & PROJECT MANAGER | CREATIVE DESIGN AGENCY | JAN 2009 - JAN 2011
Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to build a strong list of connections with a variety small to medium sized businesses, simply through word of mouth. This allowed me to ensure a steady flow of work in my downtime between companies, and taught me much about running a small business.
I knew by this time web design was my future and decided to go out and get my self a qualification in the art. I took on an ICS Learn course, which really showed me the different areas of web design and taught me many new skills.
I spent a lot of my time researching user behaviours trying to get a better understanding of what makes users do the things they do, and this is where my passion for user centred design really began.
I still work on the occasional project in my down time and try to ensure I keep all my skills fresh, ensuring I don’t loose or become rusty in the areas I don’t get the opportunity to visit much in my day to day roles.
CONTRACTOR - SOFTWARE DESIGN & DEVELOPEMNT | SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT | JAN 2009 - DEC 2009
My time at InfoComms was only brief but really took my career to the next level. It took be deeper into the world of development and is really where I got my true understanding for the trade.
I was lucky enough to have a really great mentor, who was always happy to take time out of his day to help me gain a better understanding of coding techniques.
I spent much of my time designing and helping develop software platforms, which allowed police forensic units collect information from confiscated mobile & desktop devices. I also spent a lot of time working on facilities software that supported companies such as T-Mobile.
My time at InfoComms from the outset was limited so I pushed to learn as much as I could in the short period of time. The experiences and skills I learnt have helped me become the designer I am today and will always be appreciative to the team at InfoComms for everything they taught me.
JUNIOR WEB DESIGNER & DEVELOPER | WEB DESIGN AGENCY | APR 2007 - JAN 2009
Skynet Design (formerly Capital Edge) is where my passion for web design first began. I was giving the opportunity by 2 really talented guys who took me under their wings and helped shaped my path to where I am today.
I worked hard and learnt fast gaining respect from not only the people I worked for but also from the clients I worked with. Over time I gradually grew into a position where I was responsible for the management of my projects and dealt directly with my clients.
My time at Skynet taught me the fundamentals of design and also allowed me to learn how to build websites the right way. I spent a lot of my time learning new techniques and continued to push my capabilities in both front and back end coding.
By the time it came to leave Skynet I had become a well-rounded web designer, who was confident in my abilities and enjoyed working with a variety of different people.
